This policy explains the cookies and similar technologies MonaShort uses on its website, and how you can control them.

Cookies are small text files that a website stores in your browser. Similar technologies, such as your browser's local storage, keep information on your device in the same way. We use them to run the website, to remember your choices and — only if you agree — to understand how the website is used.

These cookies keep the website working and secure and remember choices you make. They aren't used for advertising or to follow you across other websites.

  • video_session and video_refresh keep you signed in (15 minutes and up to 180 days).
  • video_challenge_… connects an email sign-in code to the browser that asked for it (about 10 minutes).
  • oauth_browser, oauth_locale and oauth_promo protect a Google sign-in, remember your language and carry the proof of a promotion code you used (if the open page holds one) while it completes (10 minutes).
  • referral_visit remembers an invitation link you opened, so the friend who invited you can be rewarded when you sign up (30 days).
  • playback_visitor counts plays by visitors who aren't signed in, so view counts stay accurate (30 days).
  • vp-lang remembers the language you chose (1 year).
  • vp-home is set only if you open a link that switches between the launch page and the full website, and remembers that choice (30 days).

If you turn on usage analytics in Privacy choices, we use Google Analytics (through Google Firebase) to understand how the website is used — for example, which pages are visited and whether videos play smoothly. Its cookies start with mona_analytics and can last up to 2 years, and it keeps an identifier in your browser's storage.

Usage analytics is off until you turn it on, and you can turn it off at any time. Google signals and ad personalization are disabled, and the data isn't used for advertising.

Promotion source statistics: a video on another platform can carry a promotion code (such as MS-K7Q2P9) or a link that opens a title on MonaShort. Without your agreement we store nothing in cookies for this, with one exception: if you sign in with Google while the open page holds the proof of a code, the proof travels through the sign-in in the oauth_promo cookie listed above, which lasts 10 minutes at most and is removed when the sign-in completes. Otherwise the proof of the code stays only in the open page and is lost when you close or reload it. If you accept optional cookies, we set two first-party cookies for 30 days each, ms_vid from then on and ms_touch after you use a code or link, and remove them if you turn the choice off:

  • ms_touch: a signed proof of the first promotion code or link you used, so that an account you create within 30 days is credited to that code.
  • ms_vid: a random visitor identifier. We keep only a hashed form of it, to count each visitor once and to prevent abuse of promotion credits.

We also keep some settings in your browser's storage, such as your theme, player and autoplay settings, recent searches and your analytics choice, and, for creators, what's needed to resume an interrupted upload. This information stays on your device.

  • Payments are completed on Stripe's checkout pages, and Google sign-in on Google's pages. These services use their own cookies under their own policies.
  • When you sign in, Tencent Cloud CAPTCHA checks for automated abuse. It runs from Tencent Cloud's servers and may use its own cookies or similar technologies.
  • Videos and images are delivered by our content delivery providers. They don't set cookies on MonaShort's website.
  • We don't use advertising cookies or social media tracking pixels.
  • Usage analytics: turn it on or off at any time in Privacy choices.
  • Your browser: you can block or delete cookies in your browser's settings. If you block essential cookies, you won't be able to sign in.
  • Signing out removes the sign-in cookies from this browser.
